If you see these students around school, be sure to congratulate them! Jordan Phommavong Ariana Murphy Amelie Ochmanek 2nd and 3rd grade students are using their knowledge of value and shading to make their creative cylinder building designs come to life. 4th and 5th graders are learning about well know abstract collage artist Romare Bearden and his famous piece called The Block. Students used his inspiration to work collaboratively with a group to make a large cityscape collage. Kindergarteners just finished learned all about Lines and how they can be used to create art. Students are now starting our unit on the Art Element of Shape. Students practiced tracing and drawing shapes with smelly markers and art sticks. Kindergartners are excited to see what we will do with shapes in art next!
First graders learned about the famous pop artist Wayne Thiebaud and is delicious paintings of desserts and diner foods. Students created their own ice cream cone and parfait paintings inspired by his art work. 2nd and 3rd grade students are learning about both abstract and realistic art. Currently students are using their imagination and knowledge of shape and color to create abstract trees from geometric shapes. Fourth and fifth graders are currently learning about non-objective abstract art. Students are using their knowledge of the Art Elements: Shape & Line to create a colorful pattern filled collage. Second and third graders spent their art class outside on a beautiful day drawing realistic trees from observatrion. Lakewood Self-PortraitsI am so excited to be back at Lakewood and to see all my returning and new students. We have a very cool year in art class ahead of us! Filled with art projects exploring many different art mediums, styles and artists! To start the 2017-18 year in art we learned or reviewed what a self-portrait is. A picture of yourself! Every grade level created a unique drawing of themself. Kinders made self-portrait busts, 1st graders made big sunglasses self-portraits reflecting their favorite place over summer break, 2nd grade made under water snorkling self-portraits, 3rd grade may drawings of themselves reading and thinking of their favorite book and 4th and 5th graders made full body self-portraits as super heros. The art room is already exploding with creativity! Be sure to walk the halls of Lakewood and check out all these amazing self-portraits! |
Mrs. HallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
