First graders read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Students learned how Eric Carle created his beautiful illustrations by making a collage with pretty painted papers. Each student created their very own caterpillar collage inspired by Eric Carle.

4th and 5th grade students are currently exploring the culture and arts of Japan. Students learned about the Japanese art of writing called Kanji. Students used this knowledge to make Japanese inspired Kanji banners.
Over the past couple of weeks students have been exploring the Art Element of Value. Students learned how to shade shapes to give them the illusion of form using white pencil and black paper. Students then used that knowledge when creating cylinder dream houses to shade them and make them look as though they are three dimensional. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Sophia Koon and Mikaela Weller for their art work that was chosen in the Michigan Art Education Association Juried Art Competition to be in this year’s Region 9 (West Michigan) Art show at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Mikaela Weller's artwork was also chosen to go on to the state competition in Lansing!! If you see these students, be sure to give them a high five and congratulate them on this great honor and their creative talents! ART NIGHT NEWS

Mrs. hallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
