4th and 5th grade students are exploring the world of abstract non-objective art. Students are learning the differences between geometric and organic shapes. They cut shapes and used them to create collage lines. Students then used their knowledge of pattern when finding the shapes between the lines and filling them with colorful designs.
Students are exploring an observational drawing of trees and using this knowledge to create a tree collage that demonstrates texture and the technique of drawing or cutting a "floating V" when making branches. Students also showed their knowledge of blending art sticks to create a second horizon line and details in the background of their art work.

Mrs. hallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
