Students began a new unit learning about art and culture around the world. The first part of this unit is all about Asian Arts. Students learned about the Chinese art of ink painting called Sumi-e and the Japanese art of writing called Kanji. Students used traditional style bamboo brushes and learned how to create specific brush strokes to paint a bamboo sumi-e painting. Students will continue to learn about Japanese and Chinese culture through the art of paper folding called Origami. We look forward to sharing these works of art with you!

Mrs. hallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
