Kindergarters enjoyed the last day of our Line unit in art. Students celebrated ther knowledge of line by watching Harold's Fairy Tale. A story of a little boy that uses his purple crayon to draw lines and go on adventures. On this adventure he met a king that wore a crwon made of Zig zag lines. Students used their knowledge of lines to make their very own line crowns.
Fourth grade, fifth grade and upper montessori students learned about the famous abstract artist Pablo Picasso. Students created abstract multiple view portraits inspired by his artwork and cubist style. Lower Montessori students are drawing imaginary monsters using their knowledge of the Art Elements: Shape, Line and Pattern. Second and third graders spent their art class outside on a beautiful day drawing realistic trees from observatrion. Waukazoo Rock ProjectWaukazoo has taken on the wisdom from a great little book called "Only One You" by Linda Kranz. While reading this book students learn about many important values and also how to be yourself and be proud that you are unique. Each student of the school painted a rock in their own creative way. These colorful painted rocks will be placed in the front of our building in a permenant installation showcasing all the diverse creativty of our studnets at Waukazoo. In the words of Linda Kranz, "There is only one you in this great big world, so make it a better place." CONGRATULATIONS!!! To all the students that had art work selected for this year’s Elementary art show at the Holland Area Arts Council! It was a beautiful show highlighting the amazing art work created by West Ottawa’s elementary students. This show will be up until March 29th if you would like to stop in and see it! Below is a list of Waukazoo students that have their work on display in the show. If you see these students be sure to congratulate them for their spectacular creativity! 4th and 5th graders are learning about Optical Illusion Art this semster. We started off the year using our previous knowledge of shading to create the illusion of a hand popping out of a loose leaf piece of paper. I'm looking forward to sharing many more OP Art experiences with these kiddos over the next couple of weeks!

Mrs. hallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
