First graders recently created knee pots and monsters pots using real earth clay. Students read the story "When Clay Sings" by Bryd Baylor. This book shows illustrations of many designs that adorned ancient Pueblo pottery. Some of the designs consisted of abstract bugs with bodies covered in patterns. First graders created their very own Pueblo Bug by using their knowledge of the art elements Shape, Line and Pattern.

Cylinder Dream Houses
Students created drawings of their dream house using only cylinders for the walls of their home. Students used their knowledge of shading and value to make their homes look 3D. Students are learning about and illustrating the Ballet and symphony composed by Igor Stravinsky called "The Firebird." Students chose a scene from the "The Firebird" and created a drawing to tell the story of prince Ivan and the evil wizard. 5th graders will attend a performance of the Firebird by the Grand Rapids Symphony in late Feburary. Selected pieces from the fifth graders will be presented in a slideshow during their performance, |
Mrs. HallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
