1st graders are learning how to use their imagination and a variety of materials to make playful monster creations. In the first quarter we read the story Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and created Wild Thing Collage puppets. Currently we are exploring earth clay while sculpting Monster Pinch Pots. We will be glazing them when we return from Holiday break. : )
Students in 2nd and 3rde grade just finished sculpting and glazing clay turtle figurines inspired by the well known Native American Ceramics artist Helen Cordero.
4th and 5th grade students learned about the abstract collage artist Romare Bearden and his famous urban collage called "The Block." Students are currently working in groups to create a large collaborative cityscape inspired by Romare Bearden.

Mrs. HallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
