Students expanded their creative vocabulary by brainstorming descriptive words used to describe a piece of art. These words were catagorized using the five senses and an added catagory for multi-sensory words. These words were posted up on the wall in the art room so students can constantly refer to them when descibing their art or someone elses.
Students use their knowledge of Abstract Non-Objective Art to begin their first abstract line painting. After reading the popular book Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, students began collaging together their Wild Thing puppet head. Next week students wil create a body for their puppet using the Art Elements of shape, line and pattern. Students are learning about Optical Illusion Art that tricks the eye. Currently students are creating a Converging Line Illusion using value, concave and convex lines.

Mrs. HallI am the art teacher and creative coach at Lakewood and Waukazoo Elementary Schools, part of West Ottawa Public Schools. I received my Bachelor and Master of Art Education at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm very proud to say that I am an art teacher and truly enjoy exploring the fine arts with my students. I am also a fine artist with a focus in printmaking. It is my joy of teaching that inspires me to be a better artist; the joy of creating my own art work that makes me a better teacher. I am very thankful to have a career in something that I am passionate about and love. Archives
